Greg Whitmire — Drummer Greg Whitmire is a Houston-based drummer with a career spanning four decades of live performance, recording, and touring. He began playing drums at age six and quickly developed a deep foundation rooted in classic rock, hard rock, and groove-driven music. After relocating to Houston in 1978, Whitmire became an active presence in the regional music scene throughout the 1980s and 1990s, performing with numerous bands including The Dawn East Band, Legend, Premiere, The Barbara Pennington Band, Big Holiday, Blackboard and Chalk, and De Holley. In 1995, Big Holiday won a Ticketmaster-sponsored tour across Texas, performing at notable venues in Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio. In 1998, Whitmire performed with Blackboard and Chalk fronted by Houston artist De Holley. The band’s song “Boys Night Out” later became the subject of a successful lawsuit after being copied and released by major-label artists, bringing national attention to the original work. Greg has performed on Slingerland, Pearl, Sonor, Gretsch, Ludwig, Tama, and Yamaha drum kits and is known for his solid time, musical restraint, and powerful live presence. In recent years, he co-founded Phenix Comes Alive, followed by the formation of Ghosts of Winter (GOW) in 2025. Ghosts of Winter has won two Nashville Music Awards, is currently completing its first full-length record, and is preparing for a West Coast tour in 2026..
